Your bed is the focal point of the whole bedroom, so it's important to put some thought into the arrangement of the bed linen ensemble, as it affects the entire ambience of the room.
There are three primary types of pillows the functional, semi-functional, and decorative, we will go over which is what and how to arrange them properly on the bed.
Functional Pillows
Functional pillows are bed pillows that you use for sleeping. That is their sole purpose. They mainly take in standard rectangular sizes ranging from 20x16 inches to 20x36 inches depending on the size of your bed, the larger 20x36 typically is used for kind sized bed.
The Stacking Position is a term that simply means the functional pillows are stacked at the headboard area of the bed. Stick with this stacking method to arrange your pillows in the most appealing manner:
Semi-Functional Pillows
In the middle of the standard and the decorative pillows comes the variety of pillow sizes called the euro, boudoir, and neck roll.
- Euro: a squared shaped pillow (27x27”) and (26x26”)
- Boudoir: a small rectangular pillow (12x16”)
- Bolster: also called the neck roll, it’s a cylindrical pillow (6x16”)
Decorative Pillows
As the name suggests, these pillows are used for ornamentation. These pillows add the oomph factor to your bed and tie in with the bedroom decor. They come in a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. Pick out these pillows according to your bedroom theme and color. Or add eccentricity by going way-out and using multi-colored patterns and shapes to crowd your sleep zone. The decorative pillows are kept front and center.
Stack Pillows 2:2:1 Ratio
The standard arrangement rule called 2:2:1 ratio, is a grouping where the large pillows are placed at the ends, the medium sized in the middle and the smallest in the center. You may mix up the numbers of the pillows, but the layering position of big to small remains the same throughout.
King Size Bed: Pair your king-sized bed with a trio-sized pillows. First place three standard pillows, then two shams. Lastly, put three smaller decorative pillows in the arrangement.
Queen Size Bed: Place two queen-sized pillows, then two shams after them. Plus three decorative pillows or a single bolster in the front.
Full Size Bed: Use two standard pillows and then pair them up with two accent pillows.
Twin Bed: Use a king-sized pillow to cover the width of the bed. Then accessorize it with one or two decorative pillows of smaller size.
Day Bed: Stack your daybed like a sofa, use large functional pillows in the back, then a couple of medium accent pillows, and bolster pillows at each end of the daybed.
There are many ways to arrange bed pillows. You may own just two or have a tremendous collection of mix and match accent pillows. Whatsoever may be the case, have a plan on the basic grouping of how to place them well, and mix it up to express your own personal style to rock that bedroom.
